General Guidelines
o It is highly advisable to maintain your current installation of Paragon until the conversion has been completed and tested.
o The conversion utilities were designed to work with standard components. If you have special drivers and/or user blocks built with BDKs, DDks, PDKs etc., these will generally require recompiling for use in the new version.
o Verify that the hardware driver you are currently using is supported in the new version.
o If you have questions about a particular conversion, contact Nematron Software Support for guidance.

Paragon 500/550 V1.x/2.x to Paragon 5005/550 v2.36

This utility allows you to convert the Environments, Strategies, Displays, Symbols, and Compounds designed in other Paragon systems to the current version of Paragon 550. Be sure to convert strategies BEFORE their corresponding displays.

If you are converting from an earlier version of Paragon 550 or Paragon 500, follow these steps.

1. Copy your old Environment file to the directory in which you have installed the new version of Paragon 550 using the DOS COPY command. The Environment files have file extension .CFG (e.g. MOLASSES.CFG). Type PARAGON to enter Paragon and select this Environment (SELECT, SELECT ENVIRONMENT from the Main Menu).

2. Set up the file paths (SELECT, CHANGE FILE PATHS) correctly for the new directory and then exit Paragon.

3. If you plan on using individual subdirectories, create Strategy, Display, History, Recipe, and Network directories. Using (DOS) COPY, copy your old Strategy file(s) from the Paragon 500/550 directory into your new Paragon 550 Strategy directory (if any). The strategy file extension is .DB (e.g., DEMO500.DB). Also, copy your Compound files (*.CMP) to the new Paragon 550 Strategy directory and, if you have any, your report text files (*.RPT). If you want to, you can also copy the .SAV and .DEF files, which contain the "parameter save" settings. Finally copy the *.PRC file(s), which contain the process table(s).

4. From the old Paragon 500/550 Display directory, copy the Symbol files (*.SHP) to the new Paragon 550 Display directory. Do NOT copy the graphic display files (*.GI); the conversion utility will copy these.

5. Copy the old Recipe files from the Paragon 500/550 Recipe directory (*.RCP and *.IRC) into the new Paragon 550 Recipe directory.

6. Copy the Network files (*.NET) from the old Paragon 500/550 Network directory to the new Paragon 550 Network directory.

7. Start Paragon 550 by going to the directory in which the new version is installed and typing PARAGON. Select CONFIGURE,STRATEGY from the Main Menu, and load in the old strategy. Then SAVE the strategy. This will accomplish the conversion. Exit the Strategy Builder.

8. Select UTILITIES, CONVERT DISPLAY, and enter the old Paragon 500/550 Display directory as the Source Directory. Select ALL to convert all displays of all strategies. Click on OK to perform the display conversion. Note that some displays might grow in the conversion. Each display will print the memory size it requires. If 32 Kbytes is exceeded (the maximum size of the Display RAM Size) you must reduce the display first in the previous version's Display Builder. Otherwise, adjust the Display RAM Size between 26K and 32 K) in CONFIGURE, ENVIRONMENT, OPERATOR INTERFACE -The"ALL" setting will convert all displays listed in the Display Directory of the main graphic display. Displays that can only be accessed through pick fields must be individually converted by selecting their name in the convert menu.

9. Finally, browse through the Environment configuration to set new parameters, such as the new printer port numbers, the number of look-up tables, or the Display RAM Size.

You are now ready to run your strategy in the new version of Paragon 550.
